Mas de Sant Llei Summer Wedding
Our lovely couple Lucy & Callum got married in late August at the gorgeous Mas de Sant Llei, a beautiful 12th century manor located only 30 minutes from Barcelona. They had a perfect summer destination wedding in Barcelona. Read on to learn all about their experience getting married in Cataluña and working with Barcelona Brides.

- Describe your wedding day in Barcelona in just three words.
Magical, beautiful, fun!

- What was your favourite memory or moment from the day?
Callum: Lucy’s song! I was so proud watching her perform in front of all our friends and family, knowing how many hours she’d spent perfecting the lyrics and practicing before (and on!) the day.
Lucy: First look! It felt magical and was so great to have our own private moment before all the guests arrived.

- What inspired you to choose Barcelona and your venue for your wedding?
We had friends and family coming from all over the world so there wasn’t much reason to stay home (especially with the English weather and prices). We looked around Europe and Barcelona checked all of our boxes: natural beauty, strong culture, incredible food, all sorts of gorgeous venues, and it didn’t have to break the bank.

- Tell us about your wedding dress—what did you love most, and how did you find the one?
I found my dress at Aire the same weekend we were in Barcelona visiting venues. It was the second wedding dress shop I’ve been to, and I loved all the dresses there! The one I chose felt unique and comfortable, with beautiful embroidered floral fabric and a fit-and-flare silhouette. I added a poofy overskirt for the ceremony to give it a more princess-y look, and the shoulder straps were also removable, so I had multiple looks throughout the day with the same dress.

- If you could do it all over again, would you change anything?
Nope!

- Let’s talk flowers—what did you love most about your wedding blooms?
We loved the colorfulness and vibrancy of the flowers! They perfectly matched our guest dress code of vibrant, flowy summer vibes. The venue itself was lush and green, so we thought pops of color would make it even more beautiful.

- What advice would you give to other couples planning a destination wedding in Barcelona?
A good planner is a must, especially if you don’t speak Spanish! And be aware of the weather when picking the date; if you or your guests aren’t used to it the summer heat and humidity can be too much, which is why we went for late August just as it started to cool off.

- Did you include any cultural traditions or personal touches in your celebration?
We had a Chinese tea ceremony two days before the wedding. It was really special and gave our families the chance to meet and get to know each other before the big day, while allowing us to continue this meaningful Chinese tradition.
On the wedding day, we also incorporated elements of Chinese culture in a few different ways. The bridesmaids each walked in carrying a Chinese fan along with their flowers, and our wedding favours were Chinese candies in red boxes and foldable wooden fans. Lucy also changed into a red qi pao during the dance party. It was lovely to have a mix of cultures throughout the celebration.

- Is there a song that instantly takes you back to the day? Why does it hold such meaning for you?
Our first dance song, I Think They Call This Love by Elliot James Reay. An obvious answer but for a less obvious reason… Neither of us even knew the song before we sat down to figure out our first dance! We decided to rehearse a dance so we’d know what we were doing on the day, and really picked a dance that suited us and the song came with it. But dancing to it so many times, helping each other figure out the steps, where we were slipping up or where one of us could do something different to help the other, was a really bonding experience in itself and this song was playing the entire time. And the on the day it signals the moment you get to finally let loose as the party starts! So it brings back really fond memories for both of us of our big day as well as the months leading up to it.
We had such a great time working with Lucy and Callum and are so grateful to them for allowing us to be part of their magical day.
