La Baronia Spring Wedding
Krystianna and Steven got married this past May at one of our favourite venues: La Baronia.
Read on to see what they had to say about their fairytale wedding and working with our team. We had an absolute blast working with this lovely couple, putting together their dream day. This was the perfect spring wedding at La Baronia.
Describe your Barcelona wedding day in just three words.
Dream come true

What is the first memory that comes to mind when you think back to your wedding day? Was it the ceremony, your first look, the speeches, the party, or something completely unexpected?
The first memory that comes to mind when I think back to our wedding day is standing at the altar holding Steven’s hands during our ceremony. In one of the most meaningful moments of the day, our officiant asked us to turn around and take a moment to look at all of our family and friends. Seeing so many of the people we love gathered together, many of whom had traveled from across the world to celebrate with us was incredibly emotional. In that moment, we felt overwhelmed with gratitude, love, and support. It was a beautiful reminder that our wedding wasn’t just about the two of us; it was about the community of family and friends who have been part of our journey and were there to witness the beginning of our next chapter together.

Why did you decide to have a destination wedding in Barcelona? What made Barcelona and your wedding venue the perfect choice for your celebration?
Barcelona is our favorite city in the world, so choosing it as the destination for our wedding felt like a natural decision. We love everything about it, the beautiful architecture, vibrant energy, incredible food, rich culture, and welcoming people. More than anything, we wanted to share a place that means so much to us with our family and friends and give them the opportunity to experience the magic of Barcelona alongside us.
When it came to finding the perfect venue, we discovered La Baronia online during our search. The moment we visited in person, we knew it was the one. We were completely blown away by its historic charm, romantic castle-like atmosphere, and breathtaking mountain views. It felt timeless, intimate, and unlike anywhere we had ever seen. La Baronia perfectly captured the feeling we wanted for our wedding day and provided the most incredible setting to celebrate with the people we love.

Tell us about finding your wedding dress (or outfit). Did you have a specific vision in mind, or did you fall in love with something completely unexpected?
I found my wedding dress in Houston, Texas, at Ivory Bridal Atelier. From the beginning, I knew I wanted something timeless, elegant, and simple. When I tried on my Vera Wang x Pronovias gown, it felt like exactly what I had envisioned. The clean lines and classic silhouette were effortlessly sophisticated and perfectly suited the romantic atmosphere we wanted for our wedding day.
Because we were getting married in Spain, I wanted to incorporate a meaningful Spanish touch into my bridal look. To complete the vision, I ordered a custom Mantilla lace veil from White Etoile. The intricate lace beautifully framed the gown and added a sense of romance and tradition that felt perfect for our Barcelona wedding. It truly brought the entire bridal look together.
For the reception and dancing, I changed into a second dress that was completely different from my ceremony gown and an absolute showstopper. While my wedding dress was classic and understated, my reception look was glamorous, fashion-forward, and designed for celebrating. The intricate lace detailing, dramatic silhouette, and statement sleeves created a striking look that felt both elegant and fun. It was the perfect dress to transition into a night of dancing and celebration with our family and friends.
I also have to give special recognition to my hair and makeup artist, Juliana Ponte. She did an incredible job transforming me into the most beautiful version of myself on my wedding day. We chose a soft glam makeup look that enhanced my natural features without feeling overly done, and for my hair, we went with her signature Hollywood glam curls. The final look felt timeless, romantic, and effortlessly elegant, exactly how I had always dreamed of looking on my wedding day.

What was the most emotional moment of your wedding day? Was there a particular moment that made you laugh, cry, or simply stop and take it all in?
The most emotional moment of our wedding day came at the very end of the reception. After all of our guests had departed, Stereo Star Band honored us with one final private dance. It was just me and Steven alone on the dance floor, slow dancing to an acoustic version of “Skinny Love” by Bon Iver.
After a day filled with so much love, excitement, and celebration, this quiet moment felt incredibly intimate and special. It gave us the chance to pause and truly soak in everything that had just happened. Tears streamed down my face as I looked at Steven and realized I had just married the love of my life. In that moment, nothing else mattered, it was just the two of us reflecting on the most perfect day and the beginning of our new chapter together. It is a memory I will cherish forever.

Let’s talk flowers! What inspired your floral design, and what was your favourite bouquet, arrangement, or floral detail from the day?
We absolutely loved the floral design for our reception tables. From the beginning, we knew we wanted something simple, classy, and elegant. Because La Baronia is already such a breathtaking venue with so much natural beauty and character, we didn’t want the florals to compete with the space. Instead, we wanted them to complement it and enhance the romantic atmosphere. Loving the Flowers executed our vision perfectly!
Our favorite floral detail was the reception table design featuring single-stem white roses paired with candlelight. The look was timeless, understated, and incredibly elegant. As the candles flickered throughout the evening, they created a warm and romantic ambiance that felt magical. One of the things we loved most was the contrast between the white roses and our guests dressed in black attire,it created a sophisticated and striking visual that perfectly matched the overall aesthetic we envisioned for our wedding day.

Your wedding venue was stunning. What made you choose it? What were the most important factors when selecting your Barcelona wedding venue?
We toured several wedding venues in and around Barcelona, but none of them gave us the same feeling as La Baronia. While many venues were beautiful, they lacked the charm, romance, and intimacy that we were looking for. The moment we visited La Baronia, we knew it was different. Nestled in the mountains with breathtaking views, it felt incredibly romantic, private, and timeless, exactly the atmosphere we envisioned for our wedding day.
One of the things that surprised me most was how much I loved the layout of the venue. Each part of the celebration took place in a different area of the castle, from the ceremony and cocktail hour to the dinner reception and dancing. This allowed our guests to experience the entire property throughout the evening. Every transition felt like discovering a new space, which kept the day feeling fresh, exciting, and full of surprises. It created a unique flow that made the celebration feel like a journey through the castle, and it was one of the many reasons La Baronia was the perfect venue for us.
Another major factor in our decision was the incredible team behind the venue. Susana, the venue coordinator, and the entire La Baronia staff were amazing throughout every stage of the planning process and on the wedding day itself. From answering our countless questions to ensuring every detail was executed flawlessly, they made the experience feel seamless and stress-free. Their professionalism, warmth, and attention to detail exceeded our expectations and allowed us to be fully present and enjoy every moment of our wedding day.

Were there any personal touches, cultural traditions, or family customs that made your wedding uniquely yours? We’d love to hear about the details that reflected your story.
There were several personal touches throughout our wedding that made the day feel uniquely ours and reflected both our story and the culture of the place we chose to celebrate.
One of the most meaningful elements was having our officiant, Jose Avila, who is also my best friend from college. Having someone who knows us so well lead our ceremony made it incredibly personal and heartfelt. Jose did an amazing job sharing our story, making our guests laugh, and creating a ceremony that felt authentic to us as a couple. It is a memory I will always cherish, and I will forever be grateful for the love and care he put into making the ceremony so special.
Another fun and unexpected detail was our custom ice luge featuring our initials carved into the ice. We worked with Gin & Tonic to create the experience, and it completely exceeded our expectations. Guests were delighted to watch espresso martinis flow through the ice luge, and it quickly became one of the most talked-about details of the evening. It was such a unique and memorable surprise that added an extra element of fun to the celebration.
Finally, because we were getting married in Spain, it was important to us to embrace and celebrate the local culture. During cocktail hour, we hired a live guitarist and flamenco dancers to entertain our guests. Daniel – Flamenco and his team delivered an incredible performance that brought so much energy and authenticity to the day. It was truly one of the highlights of the wedding for both us and our guests, creating an unforgettable experience that perfectly reflected the spirit of Barcelona and our love for Spain.

What was your favourite part of working with your wedding planner? How did having support on the ground in Barcelona help bring your vision to life?
Working with Barcelona Brides was one of the best decisions we made throughout the wedding planning process. Amber was incredibly fun to work with and truly understood our vision from the very beginning. She took every idea we had imagined for our wedding and brought it to life in a way that exceeded our expectations.
One of the most valuable aspects of working with Amber was her strong relationships with the local vendors. Having someone on the ground in Barcelona who knew the industry so well gave us complete confidence throughout the planning process. Her expertise, recommendations, and coordination made everything feel effortless, even while planning a destination wedding from abroad.
Most importantly, Amber allowed us to enjoy the experience instead of stressing over the details. By the time our wedding day arrived, we felt completely at ease knowing everything was in her hands. Every detail was executed flawlessly, and we were able to be fully present with our family and friends. She played such an important role in making our dream wedding a reality, and we are so grateful for her guidance, professionalism, and support every step of the way.

What surprised you most about planning a destination wedding in Spain? Was there anything easier, harder, or more enjoyable than you expected?
What surprised us most about planning a destination wedding in Spain was how enjoyable and stress-free the experience turned out to be. Before we started planning, we assumed coordinating a wedding from another country would be challenging, but it ended up being much easier than we expected.
A big part of that was having an incredible wedding planner. Amber’s strong relationships with local vendors made the entire process feel seamless. We trusted her recommendations completely, and having someone on the ground who knew the industry so well gave us confidence in every decision we made.
Because of that support, the planning process never felt rushed or overwhelming. We were able to enjoy the creative side of wedding planning, focus on the details that mattered most to us, and trust that everything else was being handled. Instead of feeling stressed, we found ourselves genuinely excited throughout the journey, which made the experience even more special. Looking back, planning our destination wedding in Spain was one of the most enjoyable parts of the entire experience.

If you could relive one moment from your wedding day, what would it be and why?
If we could relive one moment from our wedding day, it would be the moment we sat down at our sweetheart table during the reception. After the excitement of the ceremony and spending cocktail hour celebrating with our family and friends, it was the first time we had a chance to pause and truly take everything in.
As we looked around the reception space, glowing with candlelight and beautiful chandeliers, we saw all of our family and friends gathered together for dinner. It was such a surreal and emotional moment. We looked at each other and said, “I can’t believe we did this.”
After a year and a half of planning, seeing our vision come to life was incredible. More importantly, we felt overwhelmed with gratitude knowing that our loved ones had traveled to Barcelona to celebrate with us and experience such a special place that means so much to us. In that moment, everything felt perfect. It was a feeling of joy, accomplishment, and love that is impossible to fully put into words, and one we would relive over and over again if we could.

What advice would you give to couples currently planning a destination wedding in Barcelona? Anything you wish you had known before you started?
Our biggest piece of advice for couples planning a destination wedding in Barcelona is to trust your wedding planner’s recommendations and expertise. They know the local wedding industry, have established relationships with vendors, and understand what it takes to create an incredible wedding experience. Some of the best decisions we made came from trusting our planner’s suggestions, even when it came to the smallest details. Their experience and insight are invaluable, especially when planning from another country.
We would also encourage couples to enjoy the process and not let the stress overshadow the excitement. Wedding planning can feel overwhelming at times, but try to think of it as a fun project that you and your future spouse get to create together. Some of our favorite memories were made during the planning process itself, dreaming, making decisions, and bringing our vision to life as a team.
Looking back, one thing we wish we had known from the beginning is that not everything has to be perfect. The details that matter most are the moments you share with each other and your loved ones. Trust the professionals you’ve hired, focus on what makes your relationship unique, and remember to have fun along the way. The planning journey goes by quickly, and it’s all part of the story you’ll look back on for years to come.

How did your guests react to celebrating in Barcelona? Do you have any favourite comments or memories from family and friends?
Our family and friends had an incredible time celebrating with us in Barcelona, and hearing how much they enjoyed the experience has been one of the most rewarding parts of the entire wedding. One of the compliments we have received over and over again was about the food at La Baronia. From the cocktail hour appetizers to the live paella cooking station and the carving station featuring authentic Iberian ham, our guests were absolutely blown away. To this day, many of our friends and family still tell us it was some of the best food they have ever had at a wedding.
One comment that surprised us was how much our guests enjoyed the scenic 45-minute drive from Barcelona to the venue. We initially thought it would simply be transportation, but many guests told us they loved watching the city give way to the beautiful countryside and mountain views on the way to La Baronia. It became part of the overall experience and helped build excitement for the celebration ahead.
We also have to give special recognition to Bus Plus, who did an amazing job transporting our guests to and from the venue. Everything ran smoothly, allowing our guests to relax, enjoy themselves, and fully immerse themselves in the celebration. Hearing our family and friends talk about the food, the scenery, and the overall experience has made us even more grateful that we chose Barcelona and La Baronia for our wedding day.

Looking back now, what was the best investment you made for your wedding day? Whether it was photography, entertainment, flowers, planning, or something else entirely.
This is such a difficult question because, looking back, every aspect of our wedding felt like a worthwhile investment. Each element played an important role in creating the experience we envisioned, and together they made our wedding day unforgettable.
If we had to highlight a few, photography would be at the top of the list. Michele Morea and his second photographer, David, captured every detail so beautifully and thoughtfully. Their talent allowed us to relive the emotions and moments of the day long after it was over. We especially love the images Michele captured on film, they have such a timeless and romantic quality that we will cherish forever.
Another incredible investment was the food and beverage experience at La Baronia. The quality, variety, and abundance of food exceeded our expectations. From the cocktail hour offerings to the reception dinner, everything was absolutely delicious. Even now, our guests continue to talk about how amazing the food was and how impressed they were by the generous selection and service throughout the evening.
Entertainment was also a huge part of what made our wedding so memorable. Each portion of the day had its own unique atmosphere thanks to the talented performers we chose. La Musiqueta’s string quartet created the perfect ambiance for our ceremony, Daniel Flamenco and his team brought energy and Spanish culture to our cocktail hour, and Stereo Star Band kept the dance floor packed all night long. Each entertainment experience added something special and helped create unforgettable memories for our guests.
Most importantly, none of these incredible elements would have come together without our wedding planners at Barcelona Brides. Their expertise, organization, and relationships with local vendors made the entire planning process seamless and enjoyable. They helped bring our vision to life and ensured that every detail was executed flawlessly. Looking back, investing in an exceptional planning team was one of the best decisions we made because it allowed us to truly enjoy every moment of our wedding day.

Is there a song that instantly transports you back to your wedding day? Tell us why it holds such a special place in your heart.
“Skinny Love” by Bon Iver is definitely the song that instantly transports us back to our wedding day. It was the song played during our private last dance after all of our guests had left, and every time we hear it, we are immediately taken back to that intimate moment together as newlyweds. It will always hold a special place in our hearts.
But I also have to mention “Love Story” by Taylor Swift. When we first got on the phone with David from Stereo Star Band, I told him that I was a huge Swiftie. Without hesitation, he told me they would be happy to learn “Love Story” for our wedding. When the band played it during their second set, I was absolutely overjoyed.
I remember being in the middle of the dance floor, singing every word with Steven surrounded by all of our family and friends. It was one of those moments where I felt completely present and overwhelmed with happiness. Michele captured one of my favorite memories on video, me leaning over to Steven and telling him, “This is one of my favorite moments of my life.”
What made the moment even more emotional was remembering when “Love Story” first came out. I was fifteen years old, and my dad used to play it for my sister and me on our drive to school every morning. Standing there fifteen years later, dancing with my husband in a castle in Barcelona surrounded by the people we love most, felt surreal. I know it sounds cliché, but fifteen-year-old Krysti would never have believed this would be her life one day. It felt like a real-life fairytale, and every time I hear that song, I am instantly transported back to that magical moment.
What was your favourite photograph from the wedding and the story behind it? We’d love to know why that image means so much to you.
There are so many incredible photographs that Michele captured throughout our wedding day that it is almost impossible to choose just one. Every image brings back memories of a special moment, but the photograph that immediately comes to mind is the one of our guests waving their black napkins in the air as Steven and I made our grand entrance into the reception as husband and wife.
I love this photograph because it perfectly captures the energy and emotion of that moment. You can feel the excitement, joy, and celebration radiating from everyone in the room. After months of planning and dreaming about our wedding day, it was such an amazing feeling to walk into the reception and be greeted by all of our family and friends cheering for us.
What makes the image so meaningful is that it doesn’t just capture Steven and me, it captures the love and excitement of everyone who was there celebrating alongside us. Looking at that photograph instantly takes me back to that exact moment and reminds me how lucky we were to be surrounded by so many people who traveled from around the world to share in our happiness. It perfectly represents the joy, love, and unforgettable energy of our wedding day.

How would you describe your wedding style? Elegant, modern, romantic, bohemian, luxury, classic—or something completely unique?
We would describe our wedding style as elegant, romantic, and timeless. From the very beginning, we envisioned a celebration that felt sophisticated yet warm, allowing the beauty of the venue and the emotions of the day to take center stage.
One of the design elements that had the biggest impact was our decision to have all of our guests dressed head-to-toe in black. It created such an elegant and refined atmosphere, while the all-white florals provided the perfect contrast. La Baronia itself played a huge role in shaping the overall aesthetic. The breathtaking mountain views and historic charm of the castle added a sense of grandeur and romance that simply can’t be replicated. As the sun began to set, the entire venue transformed. The glow of candlelight, the sparkle of the chandeliers, and the soft evening light created an incredibly intimate and romantic ambiance.
When we look back at our wedding photos, what stands out most is how timeless everything feels. It was the perfect balance of elegance and romance, and it reflected exactly how we wanted our wedding day to feel.

What made your wedding in Barcelona unforgettable? If you had to sum up the experience in a few sentences, what would you say?
Our wedding in Barcelona was unforgettable because it brought together everything we love in one extraordinary place, the city that captured our hearts, our closest family and friends from around the world, and a celebration that felt uniquely us. From exchanging vows in the mountains at La Baronia, to experiencing incredible food, Spanish culture, and unforgettable entertainment, every moment felt intentional, personal, and magical.
What made the experience even more special was seeing our loved ones embrace Barcelona and create memories alongside us. Looking back, the overwhelming feeling is gratitude, gratitude for the people who traveled to celebrate with us, for the incredible team of vendors who brought our vision to life, and for the opportunity to begin our marriage surrounded by so much love. It truly felt like a real-life fairytale, and it was everything we dreamed of and more.
