J&R La Baronia dreamy wedding: Interview

Everything about this wedding from the couple to the venue, the flowers, the flamenco dancers (not to mention their first dance), the live sketch artist, cake, and las but not least the photos were out of a dream. It was a pleasure to interview Jessica and hear all about her wedding and bring you these stunning photos by Eric Rene Penoy.

Describe your dreamy la Baronia wedding day in 3 words!
Magical. Breathtaking. EPIC!

What was your favourite memory from your Barcelona wedding?

A lot of beautiful memories, but I think I loved walking down the aisle in such a gorgeous venue that is La Baronia. Everything from the beautiful trio playing our handpicked songs to the trail of perfectly placed flowers that lined that aisle. I couldn’t imagine saying our vows in a more special place with such special touches.

Why did you chose the dreamy La Baronia as you wedding destination?
We are from Miami, Florida (now living in New York) and knew we always wanted to have a destination wedding in a place that both us and our guests would enjoy as an entire vacation. We chose Barcelona because we both had never visited, but have always wanted to. It has rich art history, welcoming people, fun nightlife, delicious cuisine, and great weather – all great things that make for a memorable getaway! Plus, I have family that live in Europe, so Barcelona was a great meeting point for everyone. Plus, we speak Spanish too so that helps!

What did you love most about your wedding dress? How and where did you find it?
I found my dress in a boutique in Miami called Chic Parisien. I went to the Ines di Santo trunk show and discovered her through the boutique. I fell in love with her romantic style and use of lace illusion fabric. I felt most like a bride in my A-line dress named Mirri. I loved all of its ethereal touches: buttons on the back, illusion lace long sleeves and back, plunging neck, and light lace that looked like white vines were hugging me body. It was classy, whimsical, and enchanting!

If you did it all again what might you change?
I only wish I had more time to soak it all in. At times, I felt so rushed, so having more time (getting there much earlier) is something I would have changed. But in fact, everything was so perfect. I also wish it ended later! We truly didn’t want the party to end – we were having so much fun!

Tell us about the blooms. What was your favourite thing about your wedding flowers?
The flowers from Rita Experience were one of my favorite touches. They definitely captured the dynamic and free vibe of the wedding. They were arranged in a way that flowers would be typically seen growing in a field or a garden. I loved the lush table centerpieces mixed with taper candles. And the colors were perfect: white on the aisle and everywhere else had corals and pop of baby blue! So soft and meticulously designed. They added so much to the wedding!

What is your advice for other couples getting married in Barcelona?
My advice is to choose your date wisely! We chose a date that was during Primavera Festival and the entire city was so packed, I would have chosen another weekend in June or end of May would also be beautiful. But in general, having a wedding in Barcelona is so great – there are so many options for any kind of wedding. Whether you want to be near the water, in the city center, at a church, or a bit on the hilly outskirts like we did – Barcelona is filled with hidden gems and top notch hospitality. Give yourself time to explore the city before the big day – it’s so so beautiful.

What cultural aspects did you include in your big day?
A couple! We really wanted the culture of the destination to shine through. We hosted our rehearsal cocktail on the rooftop of Iberostar which overlooked the Plaza Catalunya, where you can really take in the architecture and skyline of the city. On our wedding day, during the dinner we had local flamenco performers which really set the mood. They were absolutely amazing and had us be part of their dances! In addition, we had a local artist sketch the scene during the wedding. And as party favors, we gave out local oils and fans from the region.
