Japandi Styling at Cortal Gran
The quieter Winter season gives us time to refresh and explore new design concepts, ideas and venues. I’ve been wanting to visit the stunning Cortal Gran for months and our idea for a Japandi theme shoot was the perfect opportunity. Cortal Gran is a historic family run castle located 45 minutes from the Catalan city of Gerona and the family that runs it are such warm and accommodating people that its a pleasure to be there, even in the middle of winter!
The setting is serene with a characteristic little greenhouse which suited our theme. If you haven’t heard of it already, Japandi is a new trend currently making waves in design. It blends Scandinavian and Japanese aesthetics to achieve balance and cohesion in an effortlessly elegant and natural way. The natural yet functional setting of the green house allowed us to play with the soft winter dusk light (captured perfectly by Charuk Studios). An organic palette of subdued green and nuances of white ranging from ivory to light grey, stone and ceramics helped us convey the Nordic and Japanese affection for Nature. The natural lines of the dishes and candles by Home On Earth, minimal pampa grass and succulents also helped add to the balance.
Look closely and you’ll see the cake by Lolita Bakery meticulously incorporated the Japanese art of Kitsugi. The philosophy of repairing broken pottery with powdered gold, silver, or platinum lacquer, which embraces the flawed or imperfect as beautiful. Treating cracks as part of our history in life and love. A romantic Japandi metaphor we love, a big thank you to everyone who collaborated!
